Dramatic Personages**

OEDIPUS OF CORINTH, Tyrant of Thebes, as an apparent foreigner, he adopts Thebes as his own and tries to maintain order in the midst of plague and uprising. He will stop at nothing to bring the unknown murderer of LAIUS to death. This role must be bald or willing to shave his head. This role continues in Oedipus Reborn.

JOCASTA, Queen of Thebes, younger in appearance than OEDIPUS, wise beyond her apparent age, a strong ruler, she puts little stock in the legends of the undead, and she hides state secrets so well even her second husband OEDIPUS is in the dark. This role appears briefly in Oedipus Reborn.

CREON, General-in-Chief of Thebes, roughly the same age as OEDIPUS, brother to JOCASTA, he is a cautiously tactful military man with unyielding loyalty to Thebes. This role continues in Oedipus Reborn and The Unburied Dead of Thebes.

TIRESIAS, High Priest of Apollo in Thebes, elderly and bearded, a believer in the gods and the undead, a necromancer, and father of MANTO. He may be played by either a male or a female. This role continues in Oedipus Reborn and The Unburied Dead of Thebes.

MANTO, Daughter of TIRESIAS, aged approximately fourteen, with animalistic qualities, a ghoulish child with morbid tastes, she assists her father in the preparation of religious sacrifices, and she is at home in the wilderness. This role continues in Oedipus Reborn and cameos in The Unburied Dead of Thebes.

CHORUS LEADER, plays multiple roles including GHOST OF LAIUS, CORINTHIAN MESSENGER, and a priest.

GHOST OF LAIUS, Murdered King of Thebes, same age as Oedipus, he has cursed his homeland of Thebes because they harbor his murderer. This role is played by the CHORUS LEADER.

CORINTHIAN MESSENGER, elderly, arrives to tell OEDIPUS of the death of the Corinthian king and begs OEDIPUS to return to Corinth and take the throne.

BOSKÓS, a Shepherd, elderly, former military man, he rescued JOCASTA and LAIUS’ mutilated infant from the hilltop, and he has kept this secret his whole life. This role is played by a CHORUS MEMBER.

CHORUS ENSEMBLE, men, women, and children infected with plague. They play various roles including soldiers, ghosts, furies, magistrates, royal children, animals, and a Delphic Priestess.

**All ages approximate. Actors must be 18 years or older. With the exception of Oedipus, Creon, and Laius all parts can be played by either a male or female actor.
