Bound, Dead in a Nutshell
Personage Descriptions
Enid Meinwen Bound, 14
or 16. Sibling to Bertrand.
Enid is a 14 or 16 year-old female living in the Pacific Northwest
with her parents and her 27 year-old brother, Bertrand. Enid is slender with
lithe-like movements and angelic in appearance; she seems to float on air with an
aura trailing behind her. She possesses a childlike innocence; she is mischievous,
yet remains a bit bewildered about the world around her. Her presence and
movement are her most striking features, but she is rather pale and her eyes
are captivating. Those who meet her are immediately and intensely charmed.
Bertrand Bound, 27 and 34.
Sibling to Enid.
Similar to his sister, Bertrand Bound is slender, light in
complexion and bright. At 23 years of age, he seems comfortable in his own
skin. Yet he nevertheless exhibits
subtle awkwardness or gangly movement, which others find unnerving or
uncomfortable. He appears confident, intelligent, fact driven -- perhaps a bit
arrogant. There are also traces of
immaturity and an unusual closeness or clinginess to his younger sister, whom
he seems to adore. People are unsure what to make of him as they
misread/mistake his body language.
In Scene 3, Bertrand is now in his mid-30s; he will have
aged, but in what manner? Imprisonment
has taken its emotional and physical toll -- or has it? He suffers from PTSD. He is exceedingly
intelligent and well-read, but not as “bright” as we saw him in Act 1. A darker side now bubbles beneath his surface.
Robert or Roberta Reynolds,
MD, PhD. Forensic Psychiatrist.
Dr. Reynolds is between 50-60 years old. This person is a highly
educated medical professional who has a lifetime of experience counseling
troubled individuals, talking to people to diffuse, de-escalate emotionally
intense situations. Reynolds is warm,
kind, confident, wise, and not easily “thrown off.”
Det. Jack or Jackie
Martin. Homicide Unit Investigator.
Det. Martin is mid-40s to 50 years old. Responsible, ethical, serious, direct. Det. Martin follows the rules carefully;
breaks them knowingly. Enjoys wielding power. Wide range for an actor to create
Det. Martin’s backstory, quirks, and methods of interrogation.
Sarah Bradley, MD. Psychiatrist.
Dr. Bradley is a well-educated female no younger than 30 years
old. Similar to Dr. Reynolds, she will
have experience counseling troubled individuals, talking with people to diffuse
and de-escalate emotionally intense situations.
However, she applies therapeutic approaches to PTSD treatment than does
Dr. Reynolds.
