Polyphonic Bonsai proudly announces our first Greenhouse Production! Our Greenhouse helps aspiring playwrights craft and hone one-act scripts during a six-month writing workshop. We then premiere the plays with a fully mounted production.
The Plays
Our current batch of one-acts dramatizes three modern fairy tales:
First we have Megan Caito's SOMETIMES A DREAM, a dream play centered on a family man having recurring dreams about a mysterious girl whose only wish is to watch It’s a Wonderful Life. What happens to grief when it is denied and postponed, especially when we know we made the right choice?
Our next offering is Lauren Shelton's THE THOMPSON HOUSE, a fictional domestic tragedy of blood set today but inspired by the Lizzie Borden murders. Has the Thompsons' eldest daughter, Emily, inherited her biological mother’s suicidal tendencies? Might her stepmother’s harassment aggravate those tendencies to a horrific end?
Our storybook evening closes with Jay Yeargin's SWAMP WITCH, a devilish comedy that drops the audience in a coven's swamp threatened by an out-of-town developer who plans to replace the wild landscape with the sterile manicured lawns of a golf course. Are mighty spells and moneyed interests the only powers in the world? Or can the simplest of us make a change?
